In the 1950 and 1960s, adult comedy recordings became widely available and very popular. Artists such as Rusty Warren, Shorty Peters, Lenny Bruce and Redd Foxx put out many “blue” comedy records that were meant for adults only. Even those who couldn’t afford to go to nightclubs could buy an album of adult material and entertain their friends.
Kay Martin also put out many suggestive adult novelty records, including a Christmas record called “I Know What He Wants for Christmas… But I Don’t Know How to Wrap It!,” which featured many “naughty” Christmas songs, such as “Come On Santa, Let’s Have a Ball.” The song features Kay Martin, suggestively moaning and groaning and calling out Santa’s name, while a wild, frantic organ riff plays in the background.
