Roger Christian - Little Mary Christmas

Roger Christian - Little Mary Christmas

Roger Christian (1934 – 1989) was a lyricist who helped surfer bands, such as the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean, write songs about dragsters. Some of the hit songs he wrote lyrics for include “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Don’t Worry Baby,” “Dead Man’s Curve,” “The Little Old Lady from Pasadena” and “Sidewalk Surfin’.”

Christian’s radio career started in Buffalo, New York in the mid 1950s. He moved to the west coast and worked for other radio stations in Los Angeles, including KFWB (AM), KRTH-FM and KRLA.

In 1962, Roger Christian also released a Christmas record, on Rendevous Records, called “Little Mary Christmas.” The song is a sappy ballad about a crippled orphaned girl, who is passed up for adoption year after year, until Santa Claus finally brings her a new set of parents.
