Joe Walega, along with his older brother Gene, formed a polka group called “The Happy Hearts,” and were quite popular around the Chicago area. They released their first record together in 1956, and recorded numerous other albums along the way, and received many awards from within the polka community. Gene died in the early 1990s, and Joe continues to tour and record with the band.
Joe Walega and His Happy Hearts recorded a sappy Christmas song called “Christmas Without Daddy,” not to be confused with the Loretta Lynn song of the same name.
