Quick Canal is all but that at over 8:30 in length, but it is a grove that I can dig into, so I don’t mind the extended duration. In fact, it feels like two different versions of one song put into one track. The first half is the melodious version for radio play and the second half is where they let their hair down and pushed the boundaries of noise v. tune.
If you saw my Throwback Track on Thursday, the tie in is Laetita Sadier, the singer from Stereolab. It is interesting how her voice fits into this track and causes the song to feel like a modern sort of SLab production. At the same time I get hints of The Dandy Warhols, Yo La Tengo and even The Beach Boys.
Regardless of the references, the biggest thing this track says to me is Summer! Perfect track for driving down to San Diego listening to….plus that is one of only a handfull of drives that will allow you to listen to it in its entirety.
May the sun shine on your beautiful face!!!
