Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been completely distracted by a personal project and every time I go to check my Shazam for any new music that I may have heard, none of it inspires me. I will get my head back in the game here soon I promise. For now, dig into a Dada Life track I have been keeping on the back burner for a year, but should have been brought to your attention a long time ago. Summer is creeping up on us and we all should be practicing our hand swinging butt shakes, and this is a great way to start.

Lemon Jelly – The Staunton Lick

As I mentioned in last week’s post, I am admittedly a decade late to the “Spaced” party. But seeing it still works so well in all facets of its production even in today’s society I will continue to reference it unashamedly here.

In this instance I present the song that plays over the end of the entire series. The song that takes us, as the viewer, into the deviations of all of the characters you come to love (over only 12 episodes) to show them reflecting on who they truly are. This lets us know that the euphoric daze of life that they have entertained us with for the run of the program is going to once again come to life, but all without our gaze. A perfect ending to a series.

This is what Lost should have considered….what the Sopranos could have benefited from…what all shows could do at the end of their run to let us, the fans, continue to reminisce on without a forced closure.

Hardwell – Spaceman

This one is a nice dance track to help get our Springs going. I usually don’t have an itch to dance until Memorial Day, but the bug has hit early as a result of watching the “rave” episode from the first season of Spaced. Yes, I am 13 years late to that party, but it still has the power to make me want to dance all night.

Now, let’s all throw shapes in the church of dance!!!

Telefuzz – Sayshell

Here is a killer track that I had all but forgot about. Lost in my personal music pool at the tail end of my exploration of electronic chillout, Telefuzz was a group that never failed to lift my spirits while relaxing my busy mind. This track was one I would always loop two or three times before letting the rest of the album play.

I think it will be going back into regular rotation.

AutoErotique – Bubonic

I’ve been pushing this song around in the back of my idea drawer for over a year now, but it has never given me a real reason to post it until a couple of weeks ago when I did a spin work out that included it. It pumped me up and I even played it a second time because it got me so charged. Now I find myself driving around and playing it regularly in my car and every time I hear it I want to work out.

So, I guess what I am saying is if you listen to this song, you will lose weight. Enjoy!

We Are Pirates – Running

It is truly a mystery to me how music can awaken the sensations of early life. It reminds me of the first time I smelled guava on the mainland and had vivid memories of our summer trips to Hawaii. But it is one thing to have your first sensory recollection of your life at 7 at the age of 14 and a wholly different thing to have one of when you were 17 at the age of…well, never you mind. Anyway, music has been doing that for me lately and I love it. Certain songs have been taking me back to my teen life in the San Bernardino mountains. While they play, I can close my eyes and picture the fog on Hwy 18, the choppy waters of Lake Arrowhead as I do my best to straighten the water ski, and love found and lost in the trees behind our home.

This track is like a ghost…it plays with those memories and makes me want to place the songs that I heard then in the memories it evokes now. It’s a bit of a tease, but I like it.

Been wanting to post “How Deep Is Your Love?” by these guys for a month now, but everytime I go to do it I back down. I think it has to do with the piano riff…you’ll never do that better than the Happy Mondays did and I guess that is a sticking point for me. Anyway, I decided to dig into the album and find a track that I could get behind and this is it. Real nice composition and production highlighting the strengths of the band.

Nicolas Jaar – With Just One Glance

This hard to find track is one of the sexiest songs I have heard in a long time. The vocals come courtesy of Scout LaRue (Willis) and show a clear vein of charisma inherited from her parents. Nicolas Jaar has been creating mostly abstract music for the majority of his career, but this track is one that will definitely get him a lot more attention. We will even forgive the “hoo” he pulled from his OWN track “Time For Us”. This is the better place for it anyway.
